The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Student and Faculty Scholarship Competition.
The Beck Institute will award 10 recipients (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and faculty in psychology, psychiatry, social work, nursing, and counseling) with full tuition scholarships to our 3-day Student and Faculty Workshop, in Philadelphia, PA, on August 13 – 15, 2012.
This experiential workshop will provide expert training in evidence-based treatment and will include a special conversation hour with Dr. Aaron Beck.

The PARTNERS Program at St. John’s University seeks a qualified clinician to provide empirically-supported assessment and therapy for traumatized, multi-cultural youth, and their caregivers in traditional and non-traditional outpatient settings. Position is part of a multi-year, federally funded grant (Project CONNECT) to evaluate evidence-based practices for children exposed to violence. Project CONNECT utilizes culturally adapted cognitive-behavioral therapy for Latino and African-American children who have experienced physical abuse/assault, sexual abuse/assault, dating violence, and/or witnessed domestic violence. The clinician will work with families at the PARTNERS Program clinic at the St. John’s University Center for Psychological Services and community-based sites in Queens, NY.
We would like to bring to your attention some research opportunities that your graduates and current students may be interested in. We plan to hire a part-time or full-time individual with training in clinical psychology. We believe that the position offers a very good opportunity for research-inclined persons to acquire the research and clinical skills as well as publications to be highly competitive when applying for future positions. It is possible that supervision for licensure through a licensed psychologist can be arranged. Details of the position are in the attachment.

Internship SurveyWe are gathering information about the internship process and possible solutions to some of the problems associated with this process.We invite psychology graduate students, interns, post docs, and faculty in both psychology departments and at internship training sites to participate in this endeavor by completing an online survey. Geoff Goodman is training a team of students to transcribe the Attachment Story-Completion Task (ASCT) and other instruments collected from his recent research trip to a small rural village in Uganda. Anyone interested in learning more about this research opportunity is welcome to attend the training meetings. Students who participate in these meetings will be given special consideration to join Dr. Goodman’s research team traveling to Uganda in August, 2012. The first training meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 14, from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Lodge B conference room. First-year students are especially welcome to observe or participate. I am writing to ask that you please forward this request for research participants to individuals who are 21 to 35 years of age, who self-identify as biracial or multiracial, and who have lived in the U.S. since age 5 or longer. I am conducting a research study, titled The Development of Racial Identity in Biracial and Multiracial Individuals: A Qualitative Study, designed to explore the subjective experience of mixed race adults in America. The aim is to examine different facets of this rapidly growing population.
Participants will be asked to take part in a small focus group (lasting approximately 1 ½ hours in length, depending on the amount of discussion that occurs). The group will meet only once and the session will be audio recorded for transcription purposes only. Measures will be taken to ensure the confidentially of all participants. In exchange for their time and participation, all participants will receive a $5.00 Starbucks gift card.

We are writing to invite you to participate in our research project, “Clinical and Counseling Psychology Graduate Student Comfort, Experience, and Fears in Discussing Explicit Heterosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual and Transgender Client Sexual Behaviors.” Given the importance of sexuality and sexual behavior in people’s lives, our aim is to shed light on the current state of students’ thoughts and feelings about discussing such topics with clients and in their training. Though by no means comprehensive or exhaustive, the study aims to be inclusive of the variety of sexual practices with the variety of sexual orientations and gender identifications.
Your participation would involve filling out an anonymous questionnaire which includes both responding to questions on Likert-type scales as well as opportunity to respond with narrative comments. The entire survey is anticipated to take 20-30 minutes to complete. Please note that the survey does utilize sexually explicit terminology and that you are free to withdraw at any time.
