The Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Student and Faculty Scholarship Competition.

The Beck Institute will award 10 recipients (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and faculty in psychology, psychiatry, social work, nursing, and counseling) with full tuition scholarships to our 3-day Student and Faculty Workshop, in Philadelphia, PA, on August 13 – 15, 2012.

This experiential workshop will provide expert training in evidence-based treatment and will include a special conversation hour with Dr. Aaron Beck.

NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis

The Center for Anxiety [www.centerforanxiety.org - 116 West 23rd Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10011] invites applications for part time (16-20 hours/week) postdoctoral fellowship beginning in January/February, 2012. The postdoctoral fellow will assume clinical, research and administrative responsibilities including conducting clinical intakes, providing individual and group cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety symptoms across diagnostic conditions, facilitation of data analyses for clinical outcome studies, preparation of treatment manuals, and supervision of junior trainees. Opportunities exist for independent and collaborative basic and applied research including manuscript preparation and grant writing under mentorship. Qualifications of applicants must include a doctoral degree, internship in clinical psychology, experience with assessment of Axis I disorders using structured diagnostic interviews, experience with cognitive-behavioral interventions for anxiety disorders with adults, and a record of academic achievement including peer-reviewed publications and/or academic conference presentations. The Anxiety Disorders Center/Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ADC/CCBT; David F. Tolin, Ph.D., director) at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital invites applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships beginning in September 2012. The ADC/CCBT specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety-related problems, and applied research on the nature and treatment of anxiety. In addition, we are developing new programs for the treatment of depression, insomnia, adult ADHD, and other conditions.

This two-year fellowship, which is a specialty extension of the one-year APA-accredited postdoctoral residency program at the Institute of Living, is based on the Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology specialty (see http://www.apa.org/ed/graduate/specialize/behav.aspx) and follows the scientist-practitioner model of training.

Each postdoctoral fellow will assume primary responsibility for clinical research projects. The current study is an NIMH-funded investigation of cognitive-behavioral therapy for adults with panic disorder. Other projects, including research on compulsive hoarding and obsessive-compulsive disorder, may be added. All fellows will assume a variety of administrative and clinical responsibilities for studies. In addition, the fellows will provide assessment and outpatient cognitive-behavioral therapy for adults, adolescents, and children in the outpatient clinic, including intensive (daily) behavior therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, school refusal behavior, phobias, depression, and other problems. Numerous opportunities exist for independent basic or applied research as well.

Requirements: Postdoctoral applicants must have completed all requirements for the granting of the doctoral degree, including the completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship in clinical psychology. Candidates should also have significant training and experience in cognitive-behavioral intervention for anxiety and related disorders, as well as a demonstrated capacity to participate in basic and/or applied research.

Successful candidates will have their doctoral degree and completed an APA approved internship by the start date, and have prior experience using CBT and other evidence-based therapies with children, adolescents, and adults. Applicants who have obtained training in CBT, ACT, DBT, PCIT and other evidence-based therapies through ABCT and other formal organizations are highly encouraged to apply. In addition, experience with psychoeducational and child neuropsychological assessment is highly desired. Career goals of fellow will be strongly considered and cases will be assigned accordingly.

Postdoctoral Residency Program
The postdoctoral residency program at the Pacific Islands Health Care System (PIHCS) and has five postdoctoral residency positions in four emphasis tracks: 1) the National Center for PTSD (NC-PTSD), Pacific Islands Division (PID) (2 positions) with a PTSD focus, 2) Military Sexual Trauma and Women’s Health (1 position), 3) Integrated Care (1 position), and 4) Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery (1 position). The psychology residency program at the Pacific Islands Health Care System and NC-PTSD, PID is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association. The next site visit will be during the academic year 2012.
Postdoctoral residents participate yearly in a varied and multidisciplinary training program designed to develop advanced competency in clinical practice and research/program evaluation as well as specialized expertise in their emphasis track and in diverse populations. Mentored training experiences are available in several settings from experienced supervisors who possess wide ranging clinical, teaching, research, and scholarly achievements.

Behavioral Tech Research, Inc. has developed an ONLINE course to teach clinicians Exposure Therapies for the treatment of clients with anxiety disorders.

 

THE (Free!)TRAINING:

This foundational course in exposure therapies uses a simulated clinical environment with cyber-clients, interactive exposure therapy manuals, and a ton of extra resources and expert videos to encourage practical and immediate application of the principles and procedures of exposure therapies. As the learner, you will be asked to use exposure therapy to treat virtual clients with various diagnoses and degrees of complexity.  The premise is simple: the best way to really learn exposure therapy is to do exposure therapy.That’s why we have designed the course to be highly interactive: everything included is intended to provide you with the closest experience possible to actually doing exposure therapy in a real-world setting.

WE PAY YOU TO LEARN:

 If you are eligible, you will receive FREE training AND earn up to $160 for completing the training and all assessments. That’s right, we pay you to learn!  You can expect your total contribution of time to be approximately 14-28 hours over about 5 months.  Eligible participants will be assessed once before receiving the training and three times post-training, spaced 6 weeks apart.
