CBT Workshop Flyer March 2012

We are writing to you about a new program soon to be initiated by the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (NYPSI), which we believe will be of considerable interest to you and your students. We are planning a Clinical Case Seminar on Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy designed to gather psychiatry residents and psychology graduate students from the final years of training (PGY-3, PGY-4; third and fourth year of graduate school), as well as clinical social workers on their way to licensure.

The primary purpose of the seminar is to provide a group supervision experience moderated by senior faculty from the NYPSI. This seminar will be conducted in the form of one three-hour weekend meeting per month at the home of an analyst. Student participants will present material from psychotherapy cases and the analyst- leader will moderate a clinical discussion. It is also our intention that the group process will facilitate bonds among future psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers. Mentorship opportunities will be available to help group members plan for post-graduation careers, including help in building a private practice. The pool of available mentors will draw from senior and junior analysts (PhDs and MDs) affiliated with the institute. Although the program welcomes clinicians from any theoretical orientation, the discussion will emphasize psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspectives.

We expect to commence meeting early in 2012. With this short time frame in mind, we would appreciate your help in distributing this announcement to your students and putting interested parties in touch with the coordinators listed below. It would also help with our launch if you could identify any student who you think might be especially well suited for our program. Each applicant will be interviewed by telephone. There is no charge for participation in the fellowship; it will be entirely subsidized by the NYPSI. For any questions, please call or write to us.

Thank you,

Get PAID to Learn Exposure Therapy!

Behavioral Tech Research, Inc. has developed an ONLINE course to teach clinicians Exposure Therapies for the treatment of clients with anxiety disorders.

THE (Free!)TRAINING:

This foundational course in exposure therapies uses a simulated clinical environment with cyber-clients, interactive exposure therapy manuals, and a ton of extra resources and expert videos to encourage practical and immediate application of the principles and procedures of exposure therapies. As the learner, you will be asked to use exposure therapy to treat virtual clients with various diagnoses and degrees of complexity.  The premise is simple: the best way to really learn exposure therapy is to do exposure therapy. That’s why we have designed the course to be highly interactive: everything included is intended to provide you with the closest experience possible to actually doing exposure therapy in a real-world setting.

WE PAY YOU TO LEARN:

If you are eligible, you will receive FREE training AND earn up to $160 for completing the training and all assessments. That’s right, we pay you to learn!  You can expect your total contribution of time to be approximately 14-28 hours over about 5 months.  Eligible participants will be assessed once before receiving the training and three times post-training, spaced 6 weeks apart.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

  • Are you a mental health treatment provider or student?
  • Are you naïve to Exposure Therapies?

Saturday, November 19th,2 – 4pm
The Barclay Hotel

Introduction to Interpersonal Psychotherapy:

Interpersonal psychotherapy is an evidenced-based psychotherapy that was developed first for major depression. Interpersonal psychotherapy was the first psychotherapy explored in a clinical trial for the treatment of depression in sub-Sahara Africa, and it has since expanded to address other disorders, age groups and formats. Join Myrna Weisman, one of the developers of interpersonal psychotherapy for a discussion of the origins of interpersonal psychotherapy as well as anticipated future directions. There will be discussion time allotted for attendees to present case material and to have it conceptualized in an interpersonal psychotherapy framework.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Myrna Weissman is a Professor of Epidemiology in Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University and Chief of the Division of Epidemiology at New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI). She has been a Visiting Senior Scholar at the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C. She received a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the Yale University School of Medicine in 1974. Her current research is on understanding the rates and risks of mood and anxiety disorders using methods of epidemiology, genetics, neuroimaging, and the application of these findings to develop and test empirically based treatments and prevention intervention.
